I had the worst car rental experience in my life yesterday with Thrifty. I got to the counter at logan airport, and all was going well (Jason was extremely helpful) however the machine would not take my Visa Debit from the my bank , to which was clearly stated in the contract that I was using. I opened my Banking app, showed them that I had funds and no travel block exists , I even bought water to show them from a stall close by and handed the receipt to Jason. BEWARE: PS Airport Thrifty-Hertz same management profit by illigit. fees. Read reviews here and other major review site (such as G-) reveals Thrifty (who my wife and I rented from airport checkout, so bad they no longer bear a sign at the P-Springs Airport) long history of illigit. fees charged against customers. Took us for $500 Xtra. Thought it was resolved (dispute immediately if ripped off and inform your financial institution) but will now be going legal route. I rented a vehicle in Detroit, where I was asked if I wanted certain extras, including upfront gas payments, as I would pay more at the pumps, I declined all the offers, just as well, as it was $2 less at the pumps, then when I was told it is standard practice, to pay upfront for what was described as a holding fee, I signed the agreement, but later discovered the fee was for roadside help, for which I did not want, when I complained, all I got was you had signed and accepted this, so I would tell all Thrify renters to be ve... read more

This company took advantage of a 78 year old Senior citizen ! I reserved what they call a "Manager's special" well in advance for pick up at Westchester airport in NY. One of the questions was "do you want an EV,I checked the NO box. Well guess what? They insisted I take a TESLA or nothing at all upon arriving at the airport. We rented a car from Thrifty in Orlando. We were quoted $202 for 4 days. We told the rental agent there was an additional driver. The initial quote receipt showed the 4 days rental and taxes. When the car was returned, the cost was $328 with no explanation as to the reason for the increase. Due to having time constraints as we were at the airport and had to make our flight, we couldn't question the charges at that time. We reserved a mini van with a rental agreement that was supposed to cost $286.78. We paid $230.20 upfront through Wisecars. When we arrived at Thrifty's JFK counter, we were told that there were no vehicles available. We had a wedding to attend and told them this is BS and we needed a vehicle. Stay away!! I rented a car from them on 11/21 and was pushed into additional insurance. I came to my senses and called Thrifty the next day. I spoke to an agent and asked to have it removed. She confirmed it would be removed. I was relieved and went on my way. I returned the car and told the agent the same thing. He confirmed it would be removed and all was good. Everything went well with my rental. The only minor problem was finding a vehicle that fit the class of car I rented that had keys in the vehicle. Granted it was about 2:30 am and there were no lot attendents around. We did have to check 3/4 vehicles (mini-van)before we found one that was unlocked and had keys in the ignition. Other wise car ran well, was clean. Counter and lot attendents were fine.
