Citysearch Editorial Review – If Seattle has an affinity for a certain baked good, it is undoubtedly the cupcake. Many bakeries around Seattle specialize in this treat, and Yellow Leaf Cupcakes has staked its claim in Belltown. The shop is small, but warm yellow walls make the space cozy rather than cramped. A few tables are pushed up against the walls and windows, but the eye is immediately drawn to the rows of colorful cupcakes on the counter. Their repertoire includes over 100 flavors topped with Italian butter cream frosting, including specialties like Earl Grey, white chocolate wasabi, apple turnover and their most popular flavor, pancakes ‘n bacon (only available on the weekends). Daily cupcake selection varies, so visiting often always results in finding something new. Noon is the best time to visit: by closing all but a few types are sold out, though there is a perk to arriving late–any remainders are 40 percent off.

Forgo Top Pot for a Yellow Leaf Cupcake – There are better cupcakes in town – but Yellow Leaf does deliver when it comes to creativity and flavor combinations (although sometimes overdone). However, if you drop by too late in the afternoon (say 3 pm) you could be SOL. The bakery doesn’t churn them out as much and frequently as the other guys do, but then again this may be a result of its inconspicuous location in Belltown. Harder to find means less foot traffic. It doesn’t help that the yellow logo and sign is hard to locate – look for Bell Thai, it’s next door. Different strokes for different folks… but Yellow Leaf’s gourmet frosting – a self-proclaimed ‘differentiator’ – tastes more like flavored shortening. The cake isn’t much better – while flavor combinations dazzle, the moistness is hit or miss from one to the next. Yellow Leaf earns points for offering a delicious selection of teas from Art of the Tea as well as French Press coffee from Fonte. During the summer days, try their amazing Toddy-made iced coffee – sweet and chocolaty without the guilt! Whatever your cupcake affiliation or preference, Yellow Leaf deserves credit for supporting local causes and charities each month. Look for the rotating "Yellow Heart" charity cupcake because $1.00 from every cupcake sold goes to support the charity in need.

I think they are the only ones brewing Vivace blends in Belltown. Delicious French-pressed Vivace.

not your average cupcake! When I discovered the Yellow Leaf Cupcake store, I thought I hit pure gold! I couldn't believe there was such a thing as a tomato soup cupcake or a sweet potato and maple brown sugar cupcake. Obviously, this is a high end gourmet type of fare - and absolutely perfect for some of the charity events my mom, aunt and I put on. Their cupcakes are always a hit - their unusual flavors - and the 'normal' ones - are crazy good and always a hit when we have them.
