This review reflects only my personal experience. During my stay at Shelter Inc., I did not feel supported and I often felt unsafe. The environment felt rigid and dismissive when I raised concerns. I was required to leave even after explaining that the only place I could go was back to a situation I felt was unstable and unsafe. I was also told that leaving the shelter will result in losing my place on the housing list. Which later turned out not to be true. This made me feel pressured and fearful rather than supported. Not one to normally leave reviews but I’ve never been quite so discriminated against and the help is disgustingly performative. Proceed with caution.

The Shelter is a wonderful place. Anyone who has been in a domestic violence situation knows the importance of having someone to talk to help. Not only do they provide a place to go for those who need it, they also provide support for people who have a home and are not finically effected by domestic violence. Karen is very passionate about helping people through the journey! If anybody in your family finds themselves in this situation make The Shelter one of your first calls!
