About

Perhaps the best way to spend a summer evening in Los Angeles is at this huge amphitheater, the Hollywood Bowl, that offers jazz, pop and classical concerts for the denizens of Los Angeles. The sound quality is excellent from any point, although binoculars are suggested for the seats in the far back. The summer home of the L.A. Philharmonic since 1922 and the home of its very own Hollywood Bowl Orchestra since 1991, numerous guest stars from Itzhak Perlman to Tony Bennett have performed their selections in this much loved, relaxed concert alternative.

Parking makes this place a real pain, so do yourself a favor and try to shuttle in. (Parking at Hollywood/Highland garage works great for this.) Once you're there, however, it's a truly pleasant experience. Bring a picnic, bottle of wine and stadium cushions for the bench seating (or you can rent them for $1 a piece). They have some decent food vendors on site if you don't want to schlep your own food. The pricier boxes are cozy, with tables that stow away once the show starts.

What can I say? It's an LA institution. My family has come to see 4th fireworks for the past 6 years and love the show. Tip: Buy kids 4th of July tix at box office for 1/2 off.

An LA icon. Summer wouldn't be the same without seeing a few concerts at the bowl. This past June we came for the Sound of Music sing-a-long and had a blast! I love that they have great seats in just about every price range.

Great Venue. I attended the Beatles' 50th anniversary concert here and despite the huge crowd, the parking, security and everything was very well planned.

Nice having live music being played under the moonlight stars. The chairs are hard and not very comfortable... you can rent chair cushions or bring your own. Bring a nice picnic basket to enjoy the show!

All the seats here are great - especially the cheap ones. Jumbo screens show you most of what's going on if you aren't sitting in the first two sections. Sound is great on most concerts. You can bring food and booze and enjoy music under the stars. Free shuttle from Hollywood/Highland Red Line stop.

Baby Patina This will top off your Hollywood Bowl experience. Be sure to come earlier than your show so you can experience a lovely sunset dinner or late lunch by the rooftop, overlooking the stage. You can expect the same quality food as you would in the Patina restaurant in Downtonwn LA, with a fresh flare. Their scallops were the best! It's like a picnic, but all you have to do is bring yourself and ready to be served!
