Ripped off – I had the exact same experience as Nandito. I bought before I compared prices, and after calling local competitors I realized I was charged nearly twice the going rate. Several hundred dollars more. I felt like they saw me coming and took advantage of me. On top of that, they didn't explain all the options I had with these glasses. They're lazy, and they'll rob you.
Outrageous – Beware of The Eye Man they will rip you off I was stupid and learned the hard way by not doing my homework checking other places.They charge me more than $400.00 dollars over the price that could have paid somewhere else,for example in the web simplyeyeglasses their prices are way much lower,I advice you to shop around before you commit yourself to this outrageously over priced and inconsiderate hole on the wall business,that's all about making a profit.
Super low class place – The Eye Man sold me 2 sunglasses cords (one for me, one for my husband). They were purchased for a kind of high-impact sports vacation. Unfortunately, they never even made it to the sports, because they were such pieces of crap. That same night that I purchased them, I put mine on my sunglasses, tried to adjust the cord, and the cord literally shred into pieces. It was obviously defective, and we thought it was an anomaly. AVOID!!! – NYC DOE TEACHERS BEWARE!!! Long review, but gives you a good idea of what kind of business the Eyeman runs... I wish I could give them ZERO stars. As a New York City public school teacher, my optical services are covered under the UFT Welfare Fund, which the Eyeman is supposed to accept and adhere to the contract terms because they sign a contract! Great Store! – I remember when they opened....that was in '76. I have been buying glasses there since then. 30 yrs. Always great service and staff. They really care about what they do. The selection of frames is huge and always changing. Top and unigue brands. Best on the West Side....maybe even in the city. Great Doctor too. He takes his time, not like some of those eyeglass factorys. I had to write this because I read falafeljohn's take on them and it is off the wall. He couldn't have gone into the same place!
30 Years Serving the Upper West Side of NYC – I have never been happier with any Eyeglasses or Contact Lenses that I have purchased anywhere else. Even after moving away from the Upper West Side of NYC, I still come back to the Eye Man. I find the Staff to be caring and very professional. The Eye Man has always been my First Choice of where to buy my eyewear. I highly recommend the Eye Man not only for the up to date styles in Eyewear, but also for their huge children selection and caring Eye Doctor.
AVOID! Rude and unpleasant – The staff at the Eye Man is very unpleasant and unnecessarily nasty. I was a loyal customer for a number of years and liked both the doctor and the salesgirl they employeed. Now both of these individuals are gone, replaced by an ogre of a woman who is mean spirited and unhelpful and a doctor who is more attentive to the delivery of unamusing punchlines than the health of your eyes. Do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere.
