TaxAct has an obvious math error in the 2025 Missouri state return module. The error makes it impossible for me to file an accurate state return. When I finally reached an agent (after being unable to reach anyone for three days), he was unable to suggest a fix or a workaround, and refused to bring the error to the attention of someone who could address it. If ONE state return can't be e-filed, then their software blocks you from e-filing your federal and other state tax returns. But of course, only after you pay them for all 3 tax returns. Horrible software.
I changed from TurboTax to TaxAct in 2020. BIG MISTAKE! It turned out it was a real rip off. I paid for the deluxe addition to make sure I don't have problems. Five years later, in 2025, it turned they never filed my taxes neither the IRS or the state taxes. I tried calling several times, I had to use tricks to get ahold of a customer representative. Certainly an Act, just not a Tax one. Absolutely incompetent, unprofessional tax preparers, lying and arrogant customer service. They filed incomplete and incorrect taxes. I discovered the mistake as numbers were not matching to what I had provided. couldn’t get a hold of anyone who can even explain how that happened, let alone get it amended or at least be refunded for this fiasco. I definitely do not recommend. My taxes were rejected and once I corrected them myself they said free filing was no longer available. I refilled elsewhere and now I'm waiting on my refund.
