DO NOT USE TAXACT - If they make a mistake they are unwilling to make it right!! I was helping a new filer with no previous tax returns. Submitted all information asked for and EFILED both federal and state. Then I printed her tax return for a hard copy. Then my return was rejected due to no 2023 adjusted gross income and no previous PIN though she did create one for this year. I've been using them for 6-7 years. I got charged an extra $60 dollars this year for the in person help that I never used. No way to get out of it when I was checking out. Used to love these guys but not so much any more. I'll probably look for a new option next year.
TaxAct promises you up to $100K money guarantee if they file wrong return. I filed through them and their software says I would get a refund. INSTEAD, IRS sent me nearly $12k debt and my state also sent me nearly $2k that I owed. I contacted TaxAct and sent them the copies of IRS and my state’s invoice. Furious after trying to get a person on the phone to no avail. I was charged more than double the price of what TaxAct disclosed was my tax preparation fee (I selected a $49.99 package and was charged $109.98!!!) on top of a $54 un-disclosed fee from the bank they used to process my direct deposit. That's criminal.
