Camp Tamarack was started in 1950, as a sister camp to the Fresh Air Camp on Blaine Lake in Roseville, Mich. It was to be called Camp Tamarack, after Tamarack Hills Farms, which occupied 1250 acres. Campers live in different villages according to age and gender. Teen travel trips originated in 1975. Two trips, one headed west, the other east, provided travel and outdoor camping experiences for older teenagers. The Western Trip still being used today.
