I called at approximately 4pm to see if the location could provide X-rays if needed for my either sever ankle sprain or fracture which gave out on me twice in two days. The receptionist confirmed they do perform these services. At approximately 615pm I got a ride to the facility from a friend. Before I went in I called to confirm they are in network for Cigna insurance. I was told they could not confirm and that I would have to call my insurance provider. This is absolute lazy nonsense by the receptionist. This facility absolutely knows what Insurance companies they are in network for. They are also the *ONLY* party who knows what Doctor/provider is on shift and which insurance companies that Doctor/Provider is in network for. They work with insurance CONSTANTLY. To pretend they can’t answer this question and put the burden on patients who may be in pain- as I was- is unacceptable. So I had to ask what doctor is on shift and the spend 15-20 minutes on the phone with my insurance provider (with my ankle in throbbing pain) for them to confirm that Sunflower and Dr. O’Laughlin Is in fact in network. I then proceeded to drag my ankle into the reception lobby just before the 6:45 pm cut off. The receptionist asked what I was in for. I explained about my ankle. Then she told me I really need to go to “Orthopedics Now- Urgent Care” because they specialize in these injuries. This would have been useful information when I called at 4pm and not 45 minutes before the other urgent care closes. Information the receptionist neglected to tell me either of the other two times I talked her. Especially on the first call when she confirmed they provide xrays for these injuries. I tried to call orthodontics now to see when the their cut off time is for walk in patients and ask if they and the provider on shift are in network for Cigna. Unfortunately they have an automated message that plays over and over with no way to talk to a human being. So now I’m back at home in significant pain. All I wanted to do was confirm if my ankle is sprained, fractured, or broken. Tomorrow I will have call out of work to drive to this orthopedic now clinic- who apparently doesn’t answer phone calls and hope that they can provide better in person customer service- like telling me if their facility and Dr. are in network for my insurance and what their cost are. But it’s VERY CLEAR Sunflower had zero intention of helping me at all. STAY AWAY and save yourself the time. Update: Kansas City Bone and Joint Clinic (Orthopedic Now ) was very helpful. Scheduled me a same day appointed. Took my insurance info over the phone and confirmed they are in network.

My most recent visit to Sunflower Medical Group was for a sudden onset of symptoms that I had never experienced before. My personal physician was not in that day, so I saw a colleague. The visit was thorough, helpful, and referrals have been set up. I like the fact that there is in house laboratory, X-Ray and Dexa. The Urgent Care is wonderful if you need to be seen on a moment's notice....and your physician is booked solid!

Sunflower Medical Group could most definitely improve patient/customer's ability to pay their bills online. All we are allowed to do is go to their website and "ask for an invitation" to the patient portal. I did that and all I got was 'thank you, your request has been sent". No direction to a billing site or email giving me further instructions on how to set up my patient portal. Your online billing or patient portal needs to be more user friendly with not so many steps when someone just wants to pay their bill!

My doctor was not in on the day I needed help. They found/created a time for me with another physician within a few hours. The exam and attention given to diagnose my need and a treatment plan was excellent! I couldn’t have asked for better care!
