I discovered Story Parlor existed just in time for their 4th anniversary festival. The place is a real labor of love by the owner and staff. The workshops, the readings, the panels -- all the events I attended were really fun and packed with welcoming, friendly people. They also sell books by local authors and have some really good wine there. This venue is an essential part of the Asheville lit scene.

This review will be quite glowing, because Story Parlor is such an incredible member of our community. Let’s start by describing the venue. I always tell people that Story Parlor feels “warm and welcoming.” Cozy lighting. Small tables with candles. An intimate stage with velvet curtains. Local wines for purchase. I took and Improv class there during Improv Fest. That was the first time I have been there. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was inside. It was cozy and made for a nice environment for the class which had 12 people. The acoustics were very good. The artsiness of the space made the class feel very special. The only downside is that parking can be a challenge. You will always find parking either in the paid lots or on the street. My advice is to get there a little early to find a space.
