I stayed at Stepping Stones in 1984 for 11 1/2 months. I shared a room with six women, beds lined up in a row.. upstairs on the right, last door on the end. I was broken, homeless and just out of a 28 day hospital stay. This place SAVED MY LIFE. They took us to meetings, gave me clothes from the grab bag and taught me A.A. I am going to be celebrating 42 years of sobriety with a clean pattern of living instead of a purposeless existence. I return to this place to drive by with gratitude. You get out what you put in. I was here in like 1982 or 83 for 3 months at which time I got drunk on New Year’s …Linda - an RN and recovering alcoholic- ran the place. I returned in 1985 after the LPN program I went through at Atlantic Technical didn’t allow me to graduate because I told them I was in AA. I also had high anxiety at that time but didn’t have a name for it. This place was instrumental in saving my life and my sobriety. My experience with this place happened almost 25 years ago. I was court ordered to go here- and, I am a type 1 diabetic, which it seemed did not matter to these people. My bloodsugars were off the wall while getting off the drug I was using, which is not surprising. One day, my bloodsugar was above 300- which isn't good. They would not give me insulin to lower it, so they sent me to the hospital and I received insulin and a test kit.
