Hate to be that guy but I have to be honest here in hopes the same nonsense doesn't happen to others. Signed up and paid 900 bucks plus hotel and travel cost to take their 2 week beginner blacksmith course. First part of the first day was fine cause it was just copying notes from a board, hearing instructions from a very well educated and entertaining teacher and then Q&A whenever something popped up. Friendly and fun, lots of great teachers. SOFA is an amazing club. At first glance it looks like a bunch of old guys who are probably welders. Some of them are welders, but everyone is friendly, happy to share what they know and help people enjoy the art of blacksmithing. The club has weekly open forge nights and monthly workshops and get togethers. Best club to be part of. Everyone is very willing to share their knowledge and experiences with you.
Spent all day there. The action really picked up after the crowd thinned out, was going strong when I left at 8:30 pm. Lots to see and buy.
