I care a great deal for everyone involved with this organization and it sincerely broke my heart when my former teacher refused to acknowledge mistreating his students. I write this out of concern for those still involved and any future victims that may come along. A large part of this organization, including several senior monks, left Sokukoji around March of 2025 (some had already left in years prior) in response to ethical issues that have come to light. I was fully ordained too but left after contributing to the organization for 5 years and having practiced at a variety of practice centers for 18 years. If you are looking for a practice center to join, especially as a woman, please do your due diligence first.
We are a community with a recent exodus of those feeling harmed by the Buddhist teaching and teacher here. Those who remain value the Buddhist Dharma as it is being expounded here. If you want to explore the Buddhist path with an imperfect community, this is a powerful place to encounter the Buddhist Dharma.
