This place is truly amazing. I came from 3 different public high schools before starting my senior year here. And the place has been everything and more. I can be comfortable enough to be myself and I have made many many friends from all grade levels. The teachers are truly amazing and help you with however you can. This school discriminates against children with disabilities. They accepted my child, after holding had an IEP meeting with out sending a formal notice. After my child attended for 3 days they left a voicemail with the principal giggling on the phone saying they had finally looked at my child’s file and she couldn’t attend because she had completed 8th grade. I am a former student of Maine Arts Academy. I attended this school for all four years of my high school experience. As of recently, I’ve realized that in the years I attended MEAA I truly witnessed the downfall of a school that had so much potential to be great. The concept of a free high school for the arts that allowed professional teachings and preparation for college and furthering arts education is incredible in theory. I went to this school for the entire of my high school years. This was one of the largest mistakes in my life. The school not only gave me a worthless education but consistently proved there lack of care for students and faculty. My grades in high school were impressive graduating with a 4.08 GPA but that’s only because the assignment and work were not high school levels.
