Shelby Automobiles, located in Las Vegas, manufactures a variety of performance automobiles. It continues to make the 289 (FIA) Cobra and the 427 S/C Cobra, as well as the Series I. The company is also involved in special design and engineering projects for automotive manufacturers. Shelby Automobile s headquarters is located next to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway racetrack. The Cobra automobile was born in the early 1960s when Carroll Shelby brought the idea of putting a big American engine (a Ford V-8) into a lightweight European racing roadster, the aluminum-bodied AC Ace. The CSX2000, as that first car was labeled, debuted at the New York Auto Show in 1962 and went on to dominate internati

Gear Head Heaven! If you're a fan of Mustangs and/or Cobras, this is the place to visit. There is a Shelby auto museum and a "garage" where Shelby "Super Snake" Mustangs are fabricated/converted and Cobra kit cars are built. The museum is open all day and no charge. Large gift shop for all kinds of clothing and merchandise for Shelby fans. Guided Tour of the "garage" and museum is at 10:30 AM every day. Also no fee. Number of original and unique cobras and mustangs on display and several Super Snake Mustangs on display and for sale. Need deep pockets! Currently next to the super speedway, but moving to the strip near airport in November 2013.

Nice free "museum” Shelby American is located near the famed Las Vegas Speedway right off the I15 freeway on the road leading to the Las Vegas race track (Speedway Blvd). People assume this is a Las Vegas attraction but it is actually in North Las Vegas. Since you are not on the Strip there is a lot of free parking right outside the front door. Inside the Shelby American building is a gift shop, the car museum and a small factory that turns Ford Mustangs into Shelby’s. They recently announced that Shelby American is moving near the Las Vegas Strip and McCarran Airport. It will be on the east frontage road of Highway 15 about a mile south of the Mandalay Bay Hotel. I went there at 10:30 AM on a Friday in mid July with my wife and went on the nice free guided tour. Tours are conducted only at 10:30 AM on Monday through Saturday. The tour includes the old cars plus you can walk out onto the factory floor and watch them change Mustangs into Shelby’s. The factory is closed on Saturdays so you only get to see the old cars on that day. If you can’t make the guided daily tour at 10:30 you can still visit and see the old Shelby’s. The Shelby Museum is open Monday-Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Saturday 10 AM– 2:00 PM. There were about 20 or 30 people on the crowded tour. There is no fee but you have to check in and give them your name after walking in the door. If you get there early you can walk around the small gift shop. The museum has about 15-20 old Shelby’s including the first Shelby ever built (this car is really cool). The tour guide told us this car is worth an estimated $23 million and also told us several interesting stories about it. Our guide (I forget his name) was good and funny and I liked his opening line about the free tour. It’s worth every cent you paid for it. My only minor complaint was the tour guide spent a lot of time trying to sell us a new Shelby (I guess that is why it was a free tour). They allow you to take pictures in the museum but you can’t take pictures in the factory as they don’t want any customers to see their new Shelby on the internet before they take delivery. Overall I enjoyed the tour and recommend it if you have a rental car in Vegas. We had a rental car so it was easy to visit. If you are on the Strip it would take an expensive taxi ride to get there. After they move closer to the strip and airport it will be a much shorter taxi ride and much easier to visit.

Shelby Museum We decided to visit at the last minute. First thing: rent a car - forget public transport it's quite out of the way. OK so we only had time for the museum, not the tour. The museum is small, there must be 20 or so cars in. It's very clean and well maintained and the cars are amazing. There is a nice historical timeline telling the story of the 'Shelby' name with real cars along the way. A must for any petrol head. The staff are very friendly and advised us to go and watch the exotic cars which where very close by. I highly recommend this attraction but if you get time do the tour as it is meant to be good, and the museum alone does not really warrant the trip - unless you are a super Shelby fan.

Petrol head heaven The good news is that in December Shelby is moving to a new location about half a mile south of Mandalay Bay so it will be easier to visit from the strip. In the meantime however it is still well worth the journey north on I15 to go and visit and its FREE!

Testosterone Central thanks to the FREE Carroll Shelby Museum The official Carroll Shelby Museum is presently located on the grounds of the massive Las Vegas Motor Speedway which is about 10 miles north of the famous Strip (although the famous "Strip" NHRA drag-strip is on this property too - take a look!) When you get out of your car you will probably hear NASCAR testing going on 1/2 mile away on Speedway track which will certainly get your racing fuel flowing. Although Mr. Shelby is no longer with us you can certainly feel his presence throughout the immaculate 'story' of his career and cars. Most every Cobra that he developed from the very first through today's SHELBY III is on display. There are also FREE daily tours of the shop areas where the hand-built Shelby's are produced to order and Ford Mustangs are converted into Shelby Mustangs and Snakes! Call for the time of the once-daily tour time and let them know if you have a large group coming. You will love this place whether or not you are still the type that accumulates speeding tickets or just appreciate some beautiful automotive artistry. Before I forget - this museum is moving to a new location late 2013 or early 2014 which will be conveniently located adjacent to the casinos and resorts! So much the better for those using a taxi!

How can you complain as it is free Get here for the free daily 1 hour tour and get your fill of petrol head facts and stats. Found out some interesting facts, but thought it weird that the Le Mans wins weren't mentioned. They are moving to the other side of thrown soon, so it will be closer to the strip.

By far one of the best things we did. was actually free!!! Usually free things are not that great but wow......this one was. They have tours and our guide was top notch! Even if you are not a car fan, you cannot help but get interested in the history of the man and his cars. I really enjoyed this and appreciated the time they spent with us.

Go! What an amazing tour! And--it's free! We went on a Tuesday and had a fantastic tour with a wonderful explanation about Carroll Shelby. Had about 30 people on the tour & no problems with everyone hearing/seeing each thing explained in the tour. Amazing at the value of all the Shelby cars in the display area! In the back factory area, you are not allowed to take pictures. At the end of the tour, you can sign you name on the wall & receive a box of free fuel additives. Great tour & they mentioned they would be moving from their current location to a location near the strip before Christmas time.
