I’ve really enjoyed my time at Manhattan Plaza Health Club. What makes this place stand out to me isn’t just the range of facilities, but the sense of community that comes with it. Responding to the closing of NYC’S first and oldest rock climbing gym, which has immense significance to the community. Management claims, in response to Jane's review, that it cant compete with larger gyms. This climbing gym is Busier than bigger gyms, bc it has a 34+ year reputation. At the least, don’t try to gaslight us into thinking many MPHC members didn’t either join for the climbing gym or come to love and rely on it. Just joined less than a week ago.. Very disappointed. It is more like a social club than somewhere you can get a serious workout in. I joined solely for the pool. People stand around on the pool deck holding conversations for 60 minutes. They stand at the end of pool lanes not swimming. If you are not actively swimming you need to get out of the pool. I've been enjoying the time I spent in this climbing gym. It is really sad to hear they'll close it at the end of September and turn it into some stupid tennis stimulator. It's a small gym but really friendly to everyone. The staffs remember every member and create such a good vibe here. I commute from NJ to the city only because of this gym even I have other options nearby.
Amazing pool area, impeccable facility. A gem in Manhattan!
