Disappointing experience at this Scotiabank branch. On March 25 at around 2:30 PM, I visited the branch to open a chequing account and get a debit card. The branch was completely empty, and two employees were available, but instead of assisting me, they seemed unsure who should help and eventually suggested booking an appointment for another day. I only go to this branch to use the ATM. I avoid in-person service whenever possible. My partner and I opened a joint savings account here, and the experience was disappointing. During the nearly 30-minute meeting, the agent mostly spoke to my partner, who is white, and barely acknowledged me—even though they needed my information to proceed. Given the current political climate it’s difficult to find peace with anxiety all around us and unfortunately this sometimes seeps into our retail culture. I have seen it often and it goes both ways. I am fortunate to have Constanta as my Customer Service Associate at Scotia Bank in Ancaster. Always friendly and approachable, even after serving a rude customer.
