I made an account online through the scotiabank app and then the app tells me to go into the branch in my city to activate the account or confirm it. So i go in and say im picking up my bank card, all the workers are absolutely stunned an have no clue what im talking about. They then say i have to make an appointment when the app told me to just go in. It works for me.
Basic account - First Nations fee exemption. Starting December 2025 all First Nations pay no banking fees until December 2026. Make sure to inform Scotiabank you are indigenous for 2026 First Nations banking fees exemption. Also you may have to continue going into Scotiabank every month to have the bank fee exemption applurd as I do.
Abysmal Customer service. I came in to pay off a credit card and was told to sign in with online banking. No matter what steps I did, the forgot password kept saying I had to activate my card in the bank machine or with a purchase. I signed in on the bank machine, but it still didn't activate. The teller didn't know what to do. The forgot password flow said, your card must be activated...and the other option was to make a point-of-sale purchase, which I didn't want to do, but she said she couldn't do anything else.
