I attended SD27J schools during a challenging time in my life as a teenager. While I was able to make some great friends here, my overall experience was mixed. I struggled with my mental health, and I felt that some of the teachers were not as supportive or approachable as I had hoped. It would have made a big difference to me if there were more resources or a stronger focus on mental health and student well-being. Additionally, the school schedule posed its own challenges. I’ve tried to contact the board on multiple occasions there’s no email, or direct phone numbers. I’m concerned that this district does not honor federal holidays. (Veterans Day for example) why is school in session when we should be honoring our veterans? There is also other holidays as well where children have to attend school. I wish every school in the district would have the same rules and policy, not every school has a 4 day week. Thinking about changing my child’s district.
