The Scanmar Pelagic Autopilot is a true beauty of simplicity and robustness. It is an invaluable part of my solo sailing system with countless hours logged and very little trouble. Compare it to a similar product such as the Raymarine ST2000 which nearly killed me because it is such a plastic POS. Pelagic just happens to be a drop in replacement size wise for the Raymarine tiller pilots, plus no plastic gyro inside, no moving gyro at all, it has a solid state gyroscope.
