Scanmar replied to another review with the answer screencapped here. What they're not telling you is that, if you want to sail the world as most Monitor customers do, you'll be held hostage in foreign countries to the iffy shipping and additional customs and duties on their already overpriced parts. Some things are custom, but others are mass produced and shouldn't require waiting and overpaying. It's terrible customer service for the most potentially loyal and influential people using their products.
The Monitor Windvane is no longer a working system for any cruising sailing vessel. The reason, Scanmar's ridiculous proprietary technology policies. Please do not buy this machine! It will freeze up on you and Scanmar will charge you outrageous prices for replacement parts simply because they can. We have put 1000's of nautical miles on three different Monitors and all three of them failed at the worst possible time. Never again will I give these people my money and I truly hope that this review will save any other sailors ... read more
Purchased a Pelagic autopilot. So much better build quality and operation than it's competition. Had questions with setup and was able to immediately get someone on the phone, no ridiculous phone tree and hold times, plus was connected with someone who knew the unit inside and out.
I purchased the monitor wind vane and pelagic auto pilot in 2021 I have sailed several thousand miles solo from the east coast US through the eastern Caribbean Trinidad Colombia and Panama The equipment has worked extremely well in a variety of conditions Mike and Suzy have provided me with exceptional support and service over the years If you are in the market for there products I strongly recommend there quality, durability and support They exceed my expectations every time S/V Saoirse
Great product. Great staff. Watch your control lines carefully for chaff and replace them when it starts.
