The Scanmar Pelagic Autopilot is a true beauty of simplicity and robustness. It is an invaluable part of my solo sailing system with countless hours logged and very little trouble. Compare it to a similar product such as the Raymarine ST2000 which nearly killed me because it is such a plastic POS. Pelagic just happens to be a drop in replacement size wise for the Raymarine tiller pilots, plus no plastic gyro inside, no moving gyro at all, it has a solid state gyroscope. I'm glad I purchased a Monitor Wind Vane, for the fine product itself, from design, to accurate manufacturing, to fit and finish. What has been a special bonus is the excellent customer service and the expertise behind the helpful advice I have counted on during my installation and sea trials.
I've had my Pelagic Autopilot for a few years now and it's worked great, it's been a game changer for cruising allowing me to escape helmsman duties to trim sails or cook a meal and the owners/ staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. I can't recommend this company enough and I'm not one to give praise easily.
I have dealt with Scanmar several times over the years. Firstly for the purchase on the Monitor wind vane (Monica) that has provided such excellent service over many years and 17,000 miles. It is used at all times while cruising as I only carry a small autopilot for use when motoring or in extremely light conditions. They were also very helpful and prompt with advice when it came time to service the Monitor and place worn parts.
