Tapas cuisine, a Spanish tradition consists of small bite-size snacks that are served along with drinks. The purpose being that of enabling the diner to have a steady conversation without focusing too much on the food. Sala One Nine offers this tapas menu comprising tortillas, toasts and sandwiches that can be shared by the group too. Accompanying this feast is chilled Sangria- another fine specimen from Spain that quenches the thirst and also leaves one in high spirits. Dine here and try the Spanish-style of catching up with friends with tapas in hand.

Not a great meal or service We pre-booked online but turned out the restaurant had plenty of spare seats. Despite there being plenty of 2-person tables free, we were seated in one right in the corner with the table hard-pressed up against it. At first we thought, luck of the draw, but then another couple came in and the waiter asked "where would you like to sit?" Very strange. The table we were on was also seriously unstable, you couldn't even rest your arms on it without the top section spinning. The person who seated us walked by and we asked politely, "can we please be seated at another table by any chance as this one rocks a fair bit?". To which he quite rudely responded "that's why we have the table positioned right against the wall" and he pushed the table back to the wall signalling that, hey comprendo it's all fixed, to which we then showed him it was not and we asked if we could move to literally the table just next to us and he was so rude about it all it left a sour taste in our mouths. So the food, we ordered the Asparagus, Croquettes, Calamari and the meatballs. Very underwhelming Tapas and we've both been to quite a few Tapas restaurants and this was also expensive to boot for the portion size. Four tapas and two glasses of wine for $96 was over the top for the quality. Ambience was cool and our waiter who asked for drinks and meals was delightful, but the meal and more importantly the attitude of the person seating the tables destroyed any chance of recommending this place or coming back again.

Terrific food in a cozy NYC setting The food is absolutely delicious here! We ordered a handful of dishes, they were delivered quickly, and everything tasted wonderful. Easily shared among the group, every bite was full of flavor and very traditional. A good selection of wine complements the meal. Service is slow, but the place was absolutely slammed. It felt more like they were trying to give you space to enjoy your food.

Delish! Great experience! The staff were so friendly. The food was amazing. One of the best spots so far for me. The Filet Mignon on the crustini was unreal, as is the fried goat cheese with honey and onions. The staff were wonderful. I fell in love with the mini chopping board that the bread came on, the manager went to find a new one for me to take home. So nice.

Horrible experience from start to finish Slammed busy starting at 5pm - which may be ok for them - but not pleasant if you are trying to meet friends. One of my friends left us $90 cash on the table for his portion, and I think it got swiped by wait/bus staff o who all denied it. It’s possible a patron did it - but how does that happen? I found it to be mediocre food too, fine but not stellar 4-star. We have way yummier tapas for half the price in LA I would have given it 3 stars at best and been over it had we not also gotten $ taken FROM US. I ended up covering the meal so it turned into a $200 dinner for two- and we both left not quite full. The staff wasn’t helpful and the whole evening was highly unpleasant. What a shame when this was a once a decade reunion of old friends in New York.
