I was left with mixed feelings about my birth experience at RBH. While the pregnancy checks all went smoothly and were handled very professionally, my birth experience was somehow traumatic. I found the vast majority of staff to be knowledgeable, friendly and empathetic. This is particularly true of the midwife and doctor team who supported me and my baby when having complications during birth. Sadly there were one or two midwives who did not work to the same values, they did not listen to me as a patient and made assumptions regarding the likely outcomes for me and my baby - which proved to be incorrect. My community midwife was fantastic, and the initial induction midwife was fine. However, once labour was properly induced, things went downhill. The midwife inserted the syntocinon drip incorrectly, so the hormone didn’t enter my system, my arm swelled up, and contractions didn’t progress. Meanwhile, my baby became stuck and distressed, which eventually led to an emergency C-section. I had a very disappointing experience at Royal Berkshire Hospital during the birth of my daughter. The midwife, Janice, was extremely rude and unprofessional. I had a C-section and felt completely unsupported and disrespected at a time when I was most vulnerable. This experience has left me deeply upset and anxious about future care.
