Rose Tree Cottage is a quaint tearoom where you can experience an authentic English tea. The tea comes with real English scones, fresh cream and jam. There are three teas held daily and it is recommended that you book a day in advance to ensure a spot. It is located inside an English bookstore so you can make an afternoon of it. I've been to the Rose Tree Cottage half a dozen times, including their previous location on California Blvd. The food was very good. In addition to the usual tea, finger sandwiches, fruit, scones, and dessert, they also served a couple things I've never had before at a tea house - a delicious hot roast beef sandwich, and a very nice herbal drink in little wine glasses. But - I was very uncomfortable with the attitude of the waiter - whom I understand owns the place. He was dressed in formal tails and white gloves, and was mo... read more
The COO COO store: CLOSE IT ! Don't push the door – Rose Tree Cottage in Pasadena, the coo coo store: don't even push the door. Save your time and your money. I placed an order for a Barbour jacket on September 14th, and paid it in full: 437.00 dollars. I never got it. I waited more than 3 months. I called the store several times, they always told me that the jacket was on its way. Well, on December 20th, after waiting more than 3 months, it was still not arrived. So, I called them and ask for a refund. They told me they wil... read more
Below Average Tea House – People who think this is the best tea house in LA don't know anything. Firstly you had better like Raspberry Tea as it is the house blend and all that's offered, secondly you need to go with the menu offered for the day if not, tough! Don't be late as you will be yelled at and humiliated in font of other patrons! If you expect more than 1 teapot of tea forget it there are no refills and if you want service maybe you will get some maybe you won't..read the reviews on teamap and you will see the gener... read more
Not a Good Tea House – If you have money to burn I still wouldn't go here. We were 5 minutes late arriving due to my friend being on crutches and we were yelled out for being late..YES YELLED AT!! 3 of us were seated at a table big enough for 2, we had no choice on the menu, my husband needed to use the restroom and the gentleman butler mumbled something about going before he arrived. They didn't even offer water until we waited 20 minutes. The service is pretentious, when the food came it was nothing special, the sandwiches... read more
Enjoy what is perhaps L.A.'s most authentic afternoon tea experience in the majesty of a historic Pasadena mansion. – Though it's no longer located in its former cozy cottage (hence the name), this rose-covered teahouse has maintained its intimate charm. Held in a pillared mansion on a tree-lined street of historic Pasadena, the space has a way of transporting you to a place and time full of romance and whimsy. Upon arriving, you'll be greeted by none other than native Brits (and owners) Edmund and Mary Fry. As you stroll by... read more
Unique, Lovely, and Tasty (Book a week ahead and bring cash--no credit cards accepted!) – I have been to tea at a number of places in the LA area, but Rose Tree Cottage is by far the best. Not only is the homemade food (scones and clotted cream and jams, oh my!) to die for, but the atmosphere is so overwhelmingly British that I felt transported back to England. This is the most authentic British tea you will find in Los Angeles. I did not meet Mary, but Edmund was a complete gentleman, and the rest of the staff were wonderfu... read more
Rude and unaccommodating – I would have loved to try afternoon tea at Rose Tree Cottage, especially because I'd read it was one of the top 7 afternoon teas in Los Angeles. I called on Sunday, February 16th, to make a reservation for a party of 11 on Sunday, March 16th. I spoke to a woman and I was told that a group of that size would be considered a "party" and that I would have to speak to Mary and that she wouldn't be in until Wednesday. I was mystified why someone would be able to make reservations for 2 people, but not f... read more
Cozy, British-themed shop and tearoom offers collectibles from England in a setting Beatrix Potter would adore. – The Scene If you somehow missed the Union Jack out front, the prominent portrait of Queen Elizabeth II in the cozy seating area should make it clear: This shop is a bit of merry olde England brought across the pond. Set in a historic bungalow within a charming garden, it's a delightful respite from a busy world. The Goods In addition to a robust selection of teas, scones and other English foods, owners Mary and E... read more
User review by nguyensarah25 – I love the scones and the tea w/milk & sugar is good too... I can go through 10 cups of tea w/out even knowing that I drank that much. If you love their scones and tea as much as I do and live far, they do sell it in their small shop. Edmund and his wife Mary are just great people!
