We have used Roanoke before and were happy with the processing of our first cow, however this time we took our 1300lb cow there we were at 620 for the hanging weight and only got 300 lbs of meat. (first red flag) Then we were told by Maggie we had 9 boxes of meat (which is written on our paper work) and when we got there it was only 7 and we were told they condensed it down. (huge red flag) that doesn't even sound realistic. unfortunately we will not be doing business there any longer. we were shorted around 100 lbs of meat.
We took a 750+ lbs steer to be processed. We paid almost $400 for 371 lbs of meat which is fine, what is not fine is that we only received 116 lbs of the 371 lbs that we paid for. The meat is small and the steaks are completely butchered and smaller than the palm of my hand! A 750+ lbs steer will put off more than 43lbs of ground beef especially when we didn’t ask for ribs so that there would be more beef. So my hog weighed 241 pounds on digital scales. When they guted it, he said the inside scale said it weighed 210 pounds hanging weight So I googled it, and it said the hog should weigh 169 to 180 pounds. The processing cost me $259. I got one box of sausages. One box of pork chops and sliced ham. In another box was the head And 3 pieces of sliced ham that would fit in the other box. So actually, only 2 boxes, 6 inches high. Grace was really nice, I had no problem with having the hog dropped off and they wrapped everything perfectly! One of the staff loaded everything into my truck and when I got home it was very easy to transport the order inside and put in my freezer. I would highly recommend them and I will use them in the future!
