Deposited a payroll cheque by photographing front and back on my RBC phone app. RBC put a hold on the cheque for 5 business days. I called in and talked with a useless rep who couldn't remove the hold even though she could see previous payroll deposits. Said I would have to come into the branch to show them the cheque and then maybe they could remove the hold. I decided to close my account with RBC and stop dealing with them altogether. Here’s why. Since my credit card had expired, I visited a branch to renew it. At a meeting with a consultant, Caroline, I presented my work permit, valid until mid-2027. She scanned the document and assured me there would be no issues. I had an absolutely terrible experience with RBC that left me stranded abroad without access to my funds. While on vacation, my credit card was suddenly blocked due to "security concerns," with no justification provided. I tried contacting their security department but spent over 20 minutes on hold (racking up roaming charges) with no one answering.
