Immersed in the beauty and culture of the Pacific Northwest, this school offers classes from wood carving to fine furniture, timber framing to tool making. The course I attended was the making of carving knives. The instructor, Tom Hensheid, with his vast working knowledge and succinct style, made us quickly productive. A quantum leap in a weekend, from wood carver to knifemaker!
I attended this school and had many issues with their school policies related to gender and cultural appropriation of materials. I basically spent a lot of money and had a unpleasant experience. I would not attend the school again. Instead of focusing on craftsmanship, safety etc. the emphasis was on gender and other things.
In my perfect world, this would be where I would study traditional woodworking techniques, furniture building, and related skills. These people have built some of the most beautiful things that I have ever seen. And I know many of the staff and alumni personally. This is a very uniquely happy, seriously committed and creative community of woodworking devotees. Extra points for being in a beautiful setting.
