Virginia has made sure we will NEVER truly own anything. Working hard to pay off those vehicles. The title says: " you own it"; Virginia is going to tax you on it. In our case we were taxed double twice for the same vehicles. The Town of Chatham will bill you, as well as Pittsylvania County. They seem to be scamming under this non- prorating rule. Needless to say we'll be looking for another state to start our business and purchase Real estate.
Summer 2026 UPDATE: A recent experience has me switching my five star review from 2023 with Samantha Brown to a single star to reflect the current service level. I once again needed assistance so I reached out to Samantha who still works for the county but now in a different department. She responded promptly and informed me that while she didn't work in the Treasurer department any longer, she had forwarded my email to them. Then crickets for a MONTH. Its a tax collection center. Dont want to be there but have to pay the piper. Friendly clerk I dealt with.
