About this business

Nestled close to the arterial Highway 290, Peckerwood Garden is a rare jewel tucked between Houston and Austin and lies at the periphery of three different climate belts. Home to an exhaustive collection of indigenous plants from Asia, Mexico and southern part of United States, it was born out of the efforts of horticulture enthusiast John G. Fairey, who traveled through various regions of Mexico and collected seeds of endangered and distinctive plant species. The sprawling 39-acre (15.78-hectare) arboretum features saplings... read more

Since we were headed to the market in Hempstead, we decided to stop by the John Fairey Garden (formerly Peckerwood Gardens) to see this botanical collection Mr. Fairey collected with Carl Schoenfeld. They brought plants from Asia, South America, and Mexico. For folks looking to also purchase native plants and succulents, they have an active nursery and sell plants, too. Mr. Fairey passed away in 2020 at almost 90. Now I wish I had met him to hear his plant stories. This is a beautiful botanic collection.

Our first visit to the garden was the Budding Out Festival, a great introduction. As a member, we were able to purchase plants from the nursery. We were able to take a guided tour which was very informative. It is a wonderful place to visit and enjoy.

Why leave their gates open if they're open to the public? So annoying to get kicked out, literally the words of the manager there, due to their inability to close their gates. It shows open on Google. Anyway, don't waste your time coming here they're only open to the public like 2x a month.
