Steer clear completely. They overbooked to the point where we lost almost a whole day waiting for a car. Dozens (probably even hundreds). We missed half of pur family Christmas. This should be unacceptable to anyone looking to rent a car. I would never ever rent from Payless or any of its counterparts again.

I reserved a rental with Payless CAR Rentals four days in advance, but when I arrived, I was told there were no cars available. No explanation, no apology, just a shrug and a “nothing we can do.” The whole experience was incredibly unprofessional and showed a complete lack of respect for customers’ time. Had a reservation for 12/8/25. Arrived at 2PM to a 2 hour line to pick up vehicle. Had to Uber to work instead of getting car. Called and spoke with Payless to adjust reservation to pick up the next morning. Arrived at 8am at the airport pickup. No cars available fro 45 minutes to 1 hour. Absolutely unacceptable. Will never use again and DO NOT recommend to anyone. ADDENDUM. For additional displeasure the car they rented me was electric and only charged to 120 miles upon pick up.

Car smelled like arm pits until I removed cabin air filter which was clogged and looked like it was sprayed with air freshener multiple times. Car was clean, but had to wash some sticky surfaces. It's a mazda cx90, was given as a similar/replacement to Jeep grand cherokee L. Tires were in a dangerous shape(you don't see it at dark pickup location. 10 days of rental. The reviews don’t lie, but we were really hoping to be the exception. Unfortunately, our experience with this car rental company was exactly as bad as others had warned. The car we were given was absolutely disgusting. Crumbs, trash, and even clothing from the previous renter were still inside. We spent over an hour vacuuming and wiping everything down, and honestly, I still feel gross just thinking about it.
