I was nervous after I booked this because of the many recent bad reviews, but I had a great experience. I booked through Expedia and didn’t get hit with any extra fees or hidden charges. I didn’t wait in line and the entire transaction took all of 5 minutes. Car was clean, ran great, and I had no issues. I’m imagining if folks are dealing with long wait times it’s because they’re coming from the airport right after a plane lands.

49 minutes in line followed by over 45 minutes so far waiting for the car. Car arrived dirty and with damage

I'm giving Payless 2 stars for the following: When calling the Kauai, Hawaii number Payless list for customer service, no one answered the phone. I called several times. I had to go back to the counter to get a few hours more on my car rental. They charged me for a full day. As I never received a summary of charges from Payless, I called their parent company, Avis. I received from Avis a summary of my extra charges that were plenty. I expected that coming from Hawaii. However, they quoted me the price including the insurance... read more

Terrible. Do not go to this place! I had to wait in line for 30 minutes and then wait for another 45 minutes! Turns out, their “systems were down”. The lady at the desk wrote on the paperwork “waived gas” 7 hours after we turned the car in we got a charge for gas. We also reserved a SUV but apparently the systems that were down affected our renovation and they gave us a minivan, which for me and my friends and family was not at all enough room.
