I reckon the office needs an upgrade, as it is a relic from the old days of ticketing. Otherwise, the regional trains also suffer from the problems of trackwork, maintenance, disruptions, etc, so you might be better off just booking the private coach downstairs, such as Murrays, Greyhound, Flixbus.
Train departed on time, legroom just right for small to medium built. I am seated at car F so at the back and getting squeaky sound. Its a 10.5hrs train right overnight train departed Sydney 8:42pm arriving 7:30am Melbourne. Full train because its long weekend Anzac, Smooth ride sleeping most of the time
Everything about NSW Trainlink services is subpar, particularly compared to other public transport services in Australia. They have the oldest busses and trains and charge the highest rates for their services. They have poor coverage and a tendency to sell out. They have weird arrival and departure times and no customer service. Overall based on my experience in the north coast, avoid NSW Trainlink as much as possible.
