About this business

Northwestern California University School of Law (NWCULaw) was founded 37 years ago. It began as an external degree granting law school and is now the oldest degree-granting online law school in the country offering online correspondence-based distance education. Its programs were developed so that economic obstacles, family commitments, remoteness of location, and other hardships would not prevent deserving individuals from studying law. The School currently has approximately 500 enrolled students, and over the many years o... read more

As many, I came to this school hoping for an affordable path to becoming a lawyer, but the reality has been extremely disappointing. The support for students is almost nonexistent. There are only a few full-time faculty members for the entire law school, and basic administrative functions are almost don't exist or poorly organized, making even simple tasks challenging. The attrition rate is alarming: every year the majority of the students either drop out or are placed on probation or academically dismissed. For example, dur... read more

This is a solid institution. It’s been around since the 1980’s, has an impressive alumni list and is a great option for those looking to achieve a law degree remotely. Most importantly, it has a bar pass rate of 70.9% as of 2024.

If reading reviews from current students then take this with a grain of salt. Agreed, the information shared on the e-Juris platform is affordable in comparison to ABA accredited law schools. However, as someone falling for this enterprise and nearing the end of the first year I realized quickly the people who call themselves leaders have no formal degree or background in education let alone in teaching adult learners. Actionable feedback is not provided and one leader plainly refuses to help students to understand comments ... read more

The school has a 50% attrition EACH YEAR! That's horrible. Also out of a first year class of ~550, only ~5 students end up passing the bar and getting a job as a lawyer. That's barely 1%! Check the attrition and employment data before going. This school lives off revenue from first year students, that's their money maker. Don't be fooled. The education is also terrible.
