We had our newborn portraits taken by Pat Monahan. He was very patient with our fussy baby - although I believe part of the reason for the fussiness was due to the temperature of the studio. The baby only had on a diaper and it was rather cold (in the wintertime). Maybe you'd have better luck if you requested him to warm it up before you arrived?
