Update: i received a return check for my retainer. Theft of service issue solved.. "Were sorry but we never did what you paid us to do. But we blame you. Since we're sorry we'd like to give you back your $500. But we can't even do that because our accountant is out for the next two weeks." 3 months later I get an apologetic call from a partner whod rather place blame on me than admitt her mistake.
