I recently had a 15-minute consultation, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. I explained to the therapist that after working with my current therapist for 10 years, I felt it was time to make a change. In response, the suggestion was made that I should continue confronting my therapist to push for deeper work. I wasn’t psychoanalyzed in 15 minutes; instead, I was treated as if I lacked the voice or intellect to communicate with my providers because I’m a minority.
