Not sure why there are some poor reviews. My father had an incident last Friday when he opened a cabinet and a can drops on his eye, and we went to Mercy ER on Sunday, per nurse hotline suggestion because seems the eye gets swollen, then was referred to Dr.Martel. I can tell it is a very busy office, the wait might be a bit long, but everyone wants to see the most qualified and best doctor, right?! The front desk was sharp, efficient and right to point. I was admitted to the ER at Sutter in Roseville. He didn't think that my case was important enough to actually attend to. I won't be scheduling a follow-up with this guy.
Same issue as everyone else, seems like a common theme. Showed up at 12:40pm for a 1pm appointment. Got left in an uncomfortable chair waiting until 2:07pm. Doctor came in for about 45 seconds then told the assistants to take photos of my eye (we could have been doing that while I was waiting). After the photos the doctor was nowhere to be found again. I accompanied my brother-in-law to see Dr. James Martel on 03/07/2025. After detailed examinations Dr. Martel performed YAG Laser Capsulotomy on his right eye for PCO (Posterior Capsular Opacification). After this procedure of only a few minutes, his blurred vision of right eye became clear right away like a miracle. Dr. James Martel is not only quite knowledgeable in his expertise, but also very kind to the patients. In my opinion of a retired Internist, Dr. James Martel is one of the best ophthalmologists in town. 👍
