VERY DISAPPOINTED – I recently visited New York City for the 1st time. My daughter and I decided to try Magnolia. Line was out the door but it didn't take long to get inside. Very disappointed in the selection of cupcakes that they had. Red velvet was very dry and the frosting was terrible. The check out line took longer than the line to get into the place. People that got their cupcakes didn't realize that they needed to turn around and go back to the end of the next line. They just continued on to the registers much to the... read more
$3.25 for their cupcake is just too much – I have been a long-time Magnolia fan, but they have definitely jumped the shark. I guess it is the "tourist" trade that has perverted what once was a solid, neighborhood, yummy joint. Alas. The banana pudding is still worth the trip - and almost worth the money. But the cupcakes? No. This week I had one of what was my favorites - devils food with butter cream icing. The devil's food was sugary and not nearly as rich and chocolatey as it used to be. The butter cream was just "ok." An... read more
Long lines!!! – Other than waiting for 20 minutes in line at 90+ degrees weather outside (I had too -- Family from out of town were visiting me) Final product was great as always..!!
Cupcakes Still Delicious, Service still not great :( – I've been eating Magnolia cupcakes since they've opened, but had taken a 2 year or so hiatus. I recently went back and was so happy to find them even more delicious than I'd remembered. Unfortunately, I also found the staff as un-interested to be working there as I remembered. The drawbacks remain that the space is too cramped to shop comfortably and the staff can still have plenty of attitude - it is such a shame. I would have loved to give this 5 stars, but Customer Se... read more
As played as the phrase " Tourist Trap" – Magnolia is undoubtedly the bakery that started the cupcake trend. Although I've never been a fan of their cupcakes, I decided to give the place a try after being on hiatus since freshman year. It was the same story; these cupcakes are overly sweet and dry, with a granulated texture to the frosting. Although their ingredients are probably more natural than Crumbs (flour often yields drier products than chemicals) and their shtick less obnoxious than Baked by Melissa, Magnolia is not ... read more
Cupcake heaven – I heard about this place in the West Village that all the celebrities and models go to. I am a cupcake freak and was a little skeptical that I would be disappointed, as oftern the situation is that there is hype about a certain product or place, and then it turns out that it really wasn't worth the hype. But curiousity got the best of me, and one Saturday morning i decided to trek down to Bleecker Street and try one of these famous cupcakes. Well the line was long, which was a bit frustrating, but , alas, th... read more
Fabulous!! – Not only are the cupcakes delicious, but the customer service is top notch! Love this place!!
Dry Dry Dry – I agree with the person below. The first time I went there I had their cupcake and it was good. When I went back there a 2nd time, their cupcake was very disappointing and, we also tried some of the cake and either a cookie or brownie - they were SO dry, but not the kind of dry a glass of milk would heal, the kind of dry that throwing it away would heal. After that I didn't crave cupcakes for years, it was pretty scarring. There is something fundamentally wrong with their baking - they're leaving out (or majorl... read more
Not Good!! – I went to this "very well know" bakery on Saturday night to celebrate my birthday with a slice of cake. I ordered a piece of chocolate for my boyfriend and a piece of red velvet for me and was so excited but when I took my first bite I discovered that my cake was soooo dry....and the piece of red velvet was from a brand new cake that had not been sliced yet. I only ate the middle tier and threw the rest away. My boyfriend ate his piece of chocolate only because we paid $9.25 for the two, dry, not good pieces of ... read more
