I want to share a concerning experience at one of the tax assistance sites coordinated by Ladder Up at Waubonsee Community College in Aurora on Saturday, March 28. I arrived around 8:00 a.m. and waited in line for about two hours. I was there with my baby, and at one point I briefly stepped away from the line to take care of her. I appreciate that there is free tax help, but are the workers forced to do it for community service or something? They are so unnecessarily condescending. I recognize the times we’re living in in this country, but it’s exhausting that so many interactions are tinged with cruelty.
Wasted over 2 hours of my life! They should have sent me home but instead filed a federal only bc I didn't have IL residency. Using the same online filing system as them to file my state? NONE of my federal population populated. I started from scratch taking 2 hours AND GOT A REJECT MESSAGE as the IRS literally won't accept 2 returns with the same SSN! And LadderUp refused to provide excess to my OWN electronic filing! It will be like I never filed at all! And I owe! State won't even go through until Fed resoved. I went to t... read more
I went to the Waukegan location 2 years straight. I feel that location is racist, as I sat and waited I watched them give the inexperienced volunteers to black people and they don't submit the the refund electronically right away. After 2 weeks of trying to check my refund status I went to a different location and they said it was never submitted. Same thing happened this year coincidentally.
