You can get an indication as to the type of care a retirement home provides based on the extras that the staff create to make the living experience richer. This evening I performed my magic show for the residents and their families as part of the new year celebrations. It was lovely to see the residents dressed up, eating with their families and having group photos taken with their loved ones. The staff at Chartwell Kanata create a home-like atmosphere in their residence. They are personal, warm and responsive to their clients' needs. As a family member of a 7 year resident, I heartily recommend taking a tour and talking frankly about your concerns. Each time we asked for an accommodation to my mother's individual needs, the staff did their utmost to fulfill it. At the end of her life, they were nothing short of angelic.

My parents visited a number of other retirement residences before deciding Chartwell Kanata was right for them. They felt the Shirley’s Brook location was big enough that they could make lots of new friends, but small enough that it would feel like a family. And that is exactly how it has been all these years. Never was that more evident then when we lost my Dad in 2018. The staff showed such compassion and care with my Mom. They made sure she was looked after not only physically but emotionally as well.
