My husband and I participated in a photo workshop on Smith Island with Jay Fleming photography June 2025. It exceeded our expectations! It's fascinating to learn about life on these islands in Chesapeake Bay. We enjoyed the group, the food, and the time out exploring the marshy areas surrounding the island. Jay is a great teacher and adjusts his "lessons" to each individual. We felt that we learned so much and look forward to another workshop opportunity.

In June I was fortunate to participate in one of Jay Fleming’s immersive photography classes with Smith Island as the home base for exploring the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. Along with 4 classmates and fellow photography enthusiasts, Jay led us to many special places at just the right time of day to capture memorable images and experiment with photographic technique. This was my second trip with Jay and went far and above my expectations. The place we stayed was amazing, the food was incredible, the photography was wonderful, and it was obvious Jay knew when and where to go to help us get some awesome photos. We will be going back!

My long-anticipated workshop on Smith Island with Jay Fleming met and exceeded my anticipation. In just three days Jay took our group of 5 photographers to places only possible by boat and his intimate knowledge of the Smith and Tangier Island areas. He took us out in the best morning and evening light and positioned us in such ideal locations that almost all we had to do was 'point and shoot' to get amazing photos. This was my first time meeting Jay and joining one of his photography sessions. I absolutely loved it and I say this even though the conditions were cold- it is February though! Jay taught me a new way to appreciate the Bay and how to capture its beauty. It was jaw dropping getting up close to the massive container ships anchored in the Bay. Thank you so much and I hope I can join another photography session with Jay in the near future!!
