Island Cars is great! Picked us up right on the curb outside the airport, drove 5 minutes, and got the car within 10 minutes at the shop with no hassle or sales tactics. So easy! Of course, they are not new cars, but they’re totally functional, and what you give up in new-ness, you more than make up in price. On our particular trip, we probably saved $250 just over the course of a 4 day rental. We always rent from local companies like this in Hawaii and we’re never disappointed.
Around 180 dollars for 3 days. It gets the job done. We only got gas for one time in our entire three day trip at Kauai. We drove from north to south for 2 days. Awesome car, and the owner is super friendly and helpful. This is the condition of the car, and honestly we are very happy with what we get!
Joel was great to work with & we’ll definitely go back to Island Cars for our next trip to Kauai! I will add one thing to note, in hopes that it helps in some way. From the moment that Joel’s wife Teri picked us up at the airport, it was clear that she’s unhappy. We rented a car for 10 days and then had to change our plans and took the car back after 2 days. They were very flexible with us and refunded us for the unused days. Only a small business gives that kind of service. We also had a mechanical issue with the car and they were very responsive - called us back continuously until we resolved the issue. Very happy with the service we got from this Kauai based family business. The price for the rental was also very good.
Have rented from Island cars multiple times on Kauai. They offer dependable vehicles at an awesome price. I’m not sure what kind of vehicle I rented from them this past trip, other than it was an SUV that didn’t look like the thousands of Jeeps that most everyone rents at the airport . The radio worked and the windows rolled down, and that’s all that my wife and I needed out of a rental car to cruise around the entire island and take in the sights!
