All the bellmen will love you bc you look like a local. We planned to rent our own kayaks for a week and Joel found us a longer bed truck. Manual roll down windows reminded us when we were young rally racing was n dirt roads, back in the analog ‘90’s. But they offer many different styles of automobile. Our ride really added to the adventure. Great service and obviously, good prices.
Island Cars is great! Picked us up right on the curb outside the airport, drove 5 minutes, and got the car within 10 minutes at the shop with no hassle or sales tactics. So easy! Of course, they are not new cars, but they’re totally functional, and what you give up in new-ness, you more than make up in price. On our particular trip, we probably saved $250 just over the course of a 4 day rental. We always rent from local companies like this in Hawaii and we’re never disappointed.
Around 180 dollars for 3 days. It gets the job done. We only got gas for one time in our entire three day trip at Kauai. We drove from north to south for 2 days. Awesome car, and the owner is super friendly and helpful. This is the condition of the car, and honestly we are very happy with what we get!
We really enjoyed renting through island cars. They were super friendly from the time they picked us up at the airport to the time we dropped the car off (late). They gave us an awesome rundown of stuff to do on the island, and were really quick to respond when we had flight troubles. We also didn’t have to wait in car rental lines which was awesome after we spent 4 hours in a budget line on Maui the week before. Overall great experience and would recommend them to anyone coming to Kauai!!
Joel was great to work with & we’ll definitely go back to Island Cars for our next trip to Kauai! I will add one thing to note, in hopes that it helps in some way. From the moment that Joel’s wife Teri picked us up at the airport, it was clear that she’s unhappy. Despite my effort to be friendly, her comments & expressions throughout the drive & check-in process led us to believe that she has significant issues with government, her husband & her life circumstances.
