I read all of the reviews before trying to contact the local branch of the IRS in Burlington. I'll admit, a lot of the reviews were concerning and I was hesitant to try. But after trying for 10 months to resolve an IRS debacle online, I figured what would I have to lose. An IRS agent picked up after the 2nd ring and assisted me over the phone for 49 minutes! She was most professional and courteous! I will be sure to post back here if/when I get a follow-up letter in the mail.

First you get a body search when you arrive by a security guard. Then you wait. And wait. Staff are barely helpful. Office Hours are short and shorter. Definitely check they are open before you waste your time. I return tomorrow for the 3rd time and hopefully it will be my last. Calling is equally frustrating but at least you eventually get to a knowledgeable person. You can't talk to a IRS representative on the phone from Vermont. It's a call center.

If you call here, you cannot speak to anyone. You will receive an outgoing message. It will tell you to go to a website to find out what services are offered. They will give you another number to set up an appointment.
