CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A JOKE. INDEPENDENT BANK MEMPHIS, TN CHARGE $15.00 EXTRA FOR ONLINE PAYMENTS AND PHONE PAYMENTS. WHEN YOU MAIL YOUR PAYMENT IN THREE WEEKS EARLY, THEY HOLD THE PAYMENT UNTIL IT IS LATE SO THEY CAN CHARGE YOU A LATE FEE. THIS BANK IS THE ABSOLUTELY WORST BANK I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH!!!

Just had a ridiculous experience trying to pay off a car loan. I was hung up on five times and put on hold six times. Then they charged me a $15 fee to pay off the loan electronically! When I bought my incredibly faithful 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe, the dealership got me a great interest rate at Independent Bank in Memphis -- which I'd never heard of, but what the heck. If I could give negative stars I would..... The Competitive rates are truly deceptive as they make up for it with all of their "convenience" fees. The customer service is hands down the worst I have ever dealt with in financing an auto loan. Paying off a loan early was a process that kept me on the phone ALL day long receiving a different payoff amount from every single person I talked to. I left 5 voice mail messages and 2 emails for managers to contact me, as they are conveniently never available. Not one call or email... read more
I purchased a car a couple of months ago and the dealership financed the car through Independent Bank. I'm in the DFW area, so I assumed that it was the Independent banks that we have here. The bank I ended up financing through is in TN. My first payment, I payed 2 payments, plus about 60% of the 3rd payment. When I logged in today, I was charged a late payment fee, which baffled me because I'm ahead on this loan. They didn't reverse the fee and instructed me to call another number. This bank is purely predatory. Every deal is a transaction and they will squeeze every dime they can from you. Online payments are charged 15 dollars extra when on time, and to call in a payment is an even higher fee. My payment was increased from 323 to 369 due to a miscommunication between the car dealership and the bank and I have called approx 8 times, with no avail. Independent bank takes advantage of people. This bank does not support the United States Military. I'm a E-6 in the Air Force and have served 12 years of my life various countries and on multiple deployments all over the world in support of this country. Today, I called this bank to get a letter from them allowing me to take my vehicle, which they hold the loan for, overseas. Their response? This bank is HORRIBLE!!!! I live in AL, purchased a vehicle where the salesperson raved about IB in Memphis, TN. I got a good interest rate, so decided to finance with them. The loan was obtained in March of 2015. My checking account is with BBandT. I set up my IB vehicle payment through BBandT bill pay, choosing the IB payment to reoccur every month on the same date.
