In 1981 violin maker Jay Ifshin purchased a small local violin shop in Berkeley that has now expanded to offer one of the most extensive collections of instruments and bows in the country. We offer discount accessories at our store in El Cerrito and by mail order to all fifty states. RecommendedI'm out of state from the Northwest and when visiting California I purchased a fine viola bow by Morgan Andersen at Ifshin in 2007. I don't know about their instrument selection but if it is like their bow selection its got to be excellent. The amount of really good bows available and the level of knowledge there was beyond expectations, specifically Richard Ward. Highly recommended pro level shop.

I was disappointed. I just returned from my first visit to this nice violin place. I am looking for a violin for my daughter, as she wants to upgrade her violin. It is for this reason that I went to Ifshin in El Cerrito. We used to rent violin when they were in Berkeley. This new place is so nice and spacious. As I approached the front desk, I talked a young lady and told her why I am in the store. She was nice, but very cold and so sterile in her dealing with me.
