Visited Idlewild Park recently and it was amazing! The trails through the marsh are serene and well-kept—great for birdwatching (saw herons, egrets, and even planes overhead). The new Environmental Center has awesome displays and classrooms that make learning about Jamaica Bay fun. Kayak launch is a bonus if you're into paddling. Quiet, clean, and feels like a real nature getaway in Queens—highly recommend.
Over the weekend I walked the trails in the park in Springfield Gardens, Queens. I liked how the city fades fast and you’re on long, almost deserted paths. In spots it feels truly wild—few people, brush along the edges, big open views. No frills, just walking and the wind, which is exactly what I wanted. And it’s still within the city, so getting there was easy. The trails are straightforward, easy to keep a steady pace and loop around. A solid place to clear your head and feel a bit off-the-grid without leaving town.
