If you have a simple tax return it's best to just do it yourself. Look online for help answering questions you might have about your return. The cost of doing it through someone who isn't an actual tax professional but rather someone who is knowledgeable doesn't justify the cost of doing business. Now if your taxes are complicated requiring itemized deductions and time than the cost is justified. I'm not bashing HR Block I just don't think it's worth the $400 for the hour of assistance. I had the misfortune of working with an old lady here named Agnes Kemeny in 2009. Yes, quite some time ago, I know. However, I was recently shredding my old tax papers and I remember vividly getting completely reamed on my taxes that year because of her inexperience and negligence.
