Used Howell’s recently for a re-mortgage. Overall, I was disappointed with the service I received. The process took much longer than the solicitor initially advised (for no obvious reason), and nothing seemed to progress unless I chased multiple times. I was required to obtain Independent Legal Advice for the re-mortgage and they quoted me £750+VAT (yes, £750!!) – I got it elsewhere for £150. I once used Howells and they were amazing, but... recently "Hi I would like to swap change house deeds into my name", "that would cost you £150 to discuss this with a solicitor for an hour!", "£150, but I know what needs to be done and the conversation will last 10 minutes to discuss costs.", "That'll cost £150 to discuss with solicitor" £150 to discuss costs, I went online and found 4 companies who spent 10 minutes with talking to me to discuss costs for free
