A lot of history in these walls. Opened in 1912, this magnificent hotel in the Italian Renaissance Revival style covered one city block and attracted all of high society. Hotel guests include four US presidents, and the likes of Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh. The building was converted to an affordable housing for seniors around the 1980s, and that function continues to this day.
If you take the time to look up the history of this building, you will be amazed by its fame and the famous folks that have passed through there. It truly was an Oakland gem! Completed in 1912 as a fancy hotel. Although it's serving a great purpose as a senior living home now, I wish it had stayed as a hotel for all who visit Oakland to walk in in awe of its glory days.
