One of the most worthy visits in Nevada. The dam holds back an enormous volume of water in Lake Mead while the Colorado River passes through the dam’s power facilities. From the top, you can see the dramatic contrast between the desert mountains, deep river canyon, and blue-green reservoir. One interesting fact: Hoover Dam is curved toward the water, using an arch-gravity design. The enormous weight of the concrete plus the arch shape helps resist the pressure of the water.
