OMG... what a piece of engineering. If you're staying in Las Vegas, a trip to the Hoover Dam is absolutely worth it. Photos simply don't prepare you for the sheer size of this structure. Standing next to it makes you feel very small very quickly. What impressed me most is when you realize when it was built. Construction began in 1931 and was completed in 1936, during the Great Depression, with thousands of workers battling extreme desert temperatures and difficult conditions.
