When I was Taken to this facility from Alton Memorial Hospital, when the EMT’s opened door, there was a strong smell of urine, and emt said “are you sure this is the place”? I said, I had no choice , this is only VA contract nursing home in South Western Illinois! The place is very old and has old equipment, poor lighting, and no patient amenities to speak of! My father recently spent approximately two weeks at Highland Health Care Center due to a failed hip replacement that left him at high risk for falls. Unfortunately, our experience was very different from the impression created by the facility’s online photos and reviews. Upon entering the facility, I observed a strong odor of urine, damaged flooring repaired with duct tape, poor lighting, crowded rooms, and generally unclean conditions. A very positive experience with friendly staff who enjoy visits from my good German Shepherd, Lexie, who is a hit with residents that she visits!
