I walked out without renting the car I reserved. I hope I can get a refund. They tried to trick me into buying more insurance almost as much as the original rental. Vanessa mocked me when I wouldn't sign off on the car based on their photos, before looking at the car in person. Also extremely slow, took about 40 minutes before I gave up. Learning that off-airport locations may just be a compromise, and that's why rates can be lower. Service was poor, and clearly there are long-term rentals from here (definitely from the Doolittle location) because I had to swap out cars at each location because they smell bad and have dirty upholstery. They clearly have no ability to detail the cars and I ended up just settling for a car with window grime smeared inside, that ALMOST smelled like a new/rental car. Just as bad was the service. Parking ticket didn’t work upon return. Poor service. The parking turnstile was out of tickets and the Convention Center, Marriott, and Hertz staff were disrespectful and unhelpful.

I am writing to express my profound dissatisfaction with my recent car rental experience at the Hertz location at Oakland Marriott City Center (1001 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94607). My experience felt like a classic case of bait-and-switch. My reservation, made and prepaid for months in advance, was for a Tesla Model Y.
